Bonny ‘s author presentations will excite and inspire students in grades K-6. From picture book readings to discussing what it means to be an author to leading picture book making workshops, Bonny’s interactive presentations will delight.
A typical all-day school visit consists of a total of four presentations of your choice:
Meet the Author
Bonny shares her life-long dream of becoming a writer from the creation of her first book in the first grade to her award-winning picture books and middle grade novels of today. Through illustrations and examples, she shows how a story becomes a book and how she became an author. Students not only learn about writing and the life of an author, but Bonny shows them the possibility of following their own dreams. Presentation: 1 hour (2-6th grade), 100-200 students.
Picture Book Reading
In this interactive workshop, Bonny reads several of her picture books and shows students how a picture book is made. Workshops: 30 minutes (K-1st grade), maximum 60 students.
Make Your Own Picture Book - Primary
Students are briefly shown how a picture book comes together based on Bonny’s book “Tickly Prickly” (a simple rhyming book about how things feel to the touch.) For this age group, Bonny leads the class in creating descriptive phrases for one of the senses. Each student will get a picture book template to make their own book about the sense of taste using their own words and pictures. Workshop: 50 minutes (2-3rd grade), maximum 60 students.
Make Your Own Picture Book - Secondary
Students are briefly shown how a picture book comes together based on Bonny’s book an “A Visit for Bear” which is a good example of 3-part story structure. Bonny discusses basic writing skills, including using story structure to give a story a good plot. Each student will receive a picture book template which they can then use to make their books. Workshop: 50 minutes (4-6th grade), maximum 60 students.
