Recent Book Sales
I just sold my third book in a series about Mouse and Bear to Candlewick. The first book, A Visitor for Bear, came out in April. The other two books are A Birthday for Bear and A Bedtime for Bear. All are illustrated by Kady MacDonald Denton, who has done a wonderful job of capturing the world of Mouse and Bear.
I also recently sold a middle grade novel to Knopf, The Magical Ms. Plum, which will come out in 2009.
Whidbey Writers Workshop MFA
I'm also excited that I've been selected as an instructor for The Whidbey Writers Workshop MFA program.
The Whidbey Writers Workshop MFA Program is the first in the country - and perhaps in the world - to be offered not by a college or university, but by an organization of writers. In this, it resembles the many free-standing arts institutions offering degrees in music, art, dance, and theater. Authorized by the Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board, WWW MFA classes began in August of 2005. You can learn more about it here.
With a beautiful location on Whidbey Island in Washington State, the program features ten-day residencies that are also open to individuals not in the MFA program. The next residency is from August 16-26, 2008, and instructors include poet Tess Gallagher and mystery writer Elizabeth George. I'll be teaching classes on Classic Story Structure and Advanced Story Structure.
